This week the SASDI office hosted the ScienceFist Foundation for their Fall STEM Social. STEM Socials are events for both educators and enthusiasts to get together, learn from one another, and trade tips and tricks. CPS teachers, IIT staff, City Colleges of Chicago faculty, and representatives of the South Side Hackerspace all showed up to share STEM content and their passion for the sciences.
Mike Davis from City Colleges of Chicago kicked off the social with a fun stunt powder demonstration. Guests also heard from the Southside Hackerspace, “a group of hackers on the south side of Chicago working together to build a social and collaborative space for…the greater south side community”, about professional development opportunities for STEM educators; you can learn more about those opportunities here. This social connected educators and professionals to new resources and ideas for engaging students and community members in STEM. We are very glad to have hosted the ScienceFist Foundation and are looking forward to future collaborations.
ScienceFist Foundation’s Winter STEM Social is scheduled to take place at the University of Chicago on December 3rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm. We hope to see you there! You can learn more about all of the great work the Science Fist Foundation is doing here.
