We had a blast at the 2016 STEM Launch Resume Building event. Students from several CPS high schools( Corliss, Lake View, Marine Leadership Academy, Michele Clark, and Rickover Naval Academy) joined us at CPS’s headquarters downtown to learn about developing their personal brand, and building strong resumes.
Our day started with a few ice breakers to get to know each other, and to practice effective communication. After the ice breaker we spent some time getting to know our host Akshar Patel, and his personal story that lead him from a degree in civil engineering to choosing to become a career development coach. After we discussed our background, the students broke out into groups of two to develop resumes for famous pop stars applying to work on dancing with the stars. Each group then presented their resume to the class, and we had a discussion on how to present the most important information. The lesson then closed with the 60 second resume. Each student had to create a personal resume, understanding the hiring manager that reads it will only see it for 60 seconds.
It was exciting welcoming new and returning STEM Launch students to campus. We are looking forward to our next program in April. Stay posted for details!
