Hello,

How to avoid a Carjacking while you are driving.

  • Keep your doors and windows locked, no matter how short the distance or how “safe” the neighborhood.
  • When you’re coming to a stop, leave enough space to maneuver around other cars. If you sense trouble, this will allow you the room needed to get away.
  • If a suspicious-looking person approaches your car, drive away carefully. In extreme situations, you might even consider going through a traffic light, as long as you can do so without causing an accident.

Thank you,

Hello,

Carjacking reduce your risk- Before you get in your car:

  • Be alert to any activity near your car. Pay attention to your surroundings.
  • When approaching your car, have your key in your hand, and check the back seat before you get in.
  • If someone is loitering near your unoccupied car as you approach it, keep walking until the person leaves.
  • Be wary of people asking for directions or handing out flyers. Trust your instincts – if something makes you feel uneasy, get into the car quickly, lock the doors and drive away.

Thank you,

Hello,

Carjacking

  • It is often a crime of opportunity – a thief searching for the most vulnerable prey. Sometimes it’s part of another crime.
  • Car thieves may find it easier to steal a car while the owner is there – with the keys in the ignition – than to break into a car, especially if the car has an alarm.
  • Cars equipped with sophisticated, built-in alarm systems and theft-deterrent devices are becoming harder to steal.
  • Cars, especially luxury models, provide quick cash for drug users and other criminals.
  • Carjacking may be a rite of passage, an initiation act, or just a thrill for some.

Thank you,

Hello,

REDUCE YOUR RISK OF CAR PROWLS

  • When you exit or enter your parked vehicle, stop and take a look around the area.
  • Before leaving your parked car, always remove the keys, roll up the windows and lock the car.
  • Make a habit of locking your garage door and car doors.
  • If possible, store your car in a closed and locked garage.
  • If your car is stored in a carport or parked near your house, leave your exterior lights on throughout the night.

Thank You

Hello,

ATM Safety Tips

  • Always be aware of suspicious persons or vehicles in the area of the ATM. Trust your gut feeling. If things don’t feel right, avoid that ATM.
  • Have ATM card out of your wallet or purse before approaching the ATM.
  • Don’t write your ATM personal identification number on your card or keep the number in your wallet.
  • When entering your personal identification number, try to keep the numbers from the view of others.
  • Don’t withdraw large amounts of cash.
  • Secure your money at the ATM. Don’t walk away with money in hand.
  • If a robber demands your money, don’t argue or fight with the suspect. Note the robber’s description and give the robber the money.

Thank you.

Hello,

Car Trouble?

If a car bumps you from behind, be careful.  Stay in your car and wait for the other person to get out. If you sense suspicious behavior, pull away and call the police immediately.

If your car breaks down, raise the hood and if possible, stay inside.  If someone offers to help, do not open the window or door.  Ask them to call the police or Roadside assistance for you.  Never accept a ride.

Thank you,
